We had a patient who was ordered to have a thoracocentesis, and due to COVID, we were going to perform the procedure in the patient's room. Once in the patient's room, my colleague and I attempted to discuss the procedure with the patient, but she was very against it. We could tell she was confused about what we were going to do, and she began asking for Tammy. I understood her concern and went to find Tammy.

Tammy immediately knew which patient I was inquiring about and explained that she had explained the procedure to her and was probably nervous about having the thoracentesis done. Tammy entered the room, and the patient was elated to see her. The patient was pleasant and cooperative once Tammy reminded her of their conversation. The patient wanted Tammy to hold her hand and stay with her during the procedure. Tammy did not hesitate to do so; Tammy talked the patient through the entire procedure.

Tammy was kind and respectful the whole time, making the patient feel safe. You could tell how the patient established trust in Tammy from the exemplary care she gave the patient. Her colleagues on the floor also praised Tammy for her hard work, and we expressed our gratitude to her.

Tammy exemplifies nursing excellence and radiates kindness and positivity. I hope she knows how grateful I am to experience the exceptional care she gave. I hope she knows how thankful we are that she was able to help us with our procedure. She is beyond deserving of this award, and I hope she continues to set the standard for exceptional nursing.
