A young woman arrived at the ER for what she believed to be a simple stomachache. During the front-end process, she unexpectedly gave birth. As you can imagine, this was a shocking and overwhelming experience for the mother and our entire team. While many staff members were involved in the immediate care of both mom and baby, one nurse went above and beyond to ensure this new mother had everything she needed in the days that followed. Tamika Bullock, though not directly involved in the surprise delivery, took it upon herself to check in on the patient, recognizing that such an unexpected event could leave the mother unprepared for her new journey. She worked closely with social work and the patient while they were in the mom-baby unit, ensuring they had support.

On her day off, she went even further-personally gathering and delivering essential items, including clothes, a car seat, a stroller, bottles, and even a crib. Tamika's selflessness, compassion, and dedication to this patient and her newborn truly embody the spirit of nursing. Her actions provided not only tangible necessities but also comfort and reassurance during what could have been an overwhelming time. She exemplifies the extraordinary care and kindness that the DAISY Award represents, making a lasting impact on this mother and her child.
