Taliah had the curtain slightly pulled for privacy and was talking to and singing quietly to Pop as she spruced him up and cared for him.
Taliah provided an extraordinary level of care for my father-in-law, J. She cared for him for several days during the time that he was in the MSICU at Rex. From the moment we met her, we could tell how kind, caring, and knowledgeable she was. She answered numerous questions for us and explained what was going on, sometimes multiple times, as family members were rotating through.
One of the things that I loved was that, although he was not responsive, she would say, "Mr. J, I'm here to check on you,” and would proceed to tell him what she was doing as if he was going to wake up and say, “OK, thank you so much.” Taliah was amazing, making sure that all of his medical and personal care needs were not just met but exceeded; she even washed his hair.
After she cared for him for two days, we hoped we would be able to request her when she returned for her next shift. Unfortunately, she had a training to attend that morning and was assigned to another patient. When she had a quick break, she came in to talk with my husband and check on him, as well as my father-in-law. When I stepped into the room, I was upset, and she came right over with the box of tissues and open arms giving me the hug and TLC I needed.
That afternoon, after we got a sobering update, my husband asked Taliah if she had an extra minute, if she would just check in on his dad and say hi to him before we left. My brother-in-law stepped towards the room to check in one more time and said he couldn't bear to interrupt what he saw at the window. Taliah had the curtain slightly pulled for privacy and was talking to and singing quietly to Pop as she spruced him up and cared for him. My brother-in-law said it was a truly beautiful thing to witness as she cared for Pop as if he were her own family member.
Although I've tried, words can't adequately express how thankful and impressed we are with all that Taliah did for my father-in-law and for us!
