Takesha took the time after her shift, which could not have been an easy one, to bring these items down to us, sit in our office, and handwrite this note of condolences to the patient’s family.
This morning, Takesha came to the Experience office, requesting that we mail something that was left behind by the family members of one of her patients. It was a small bottle of seeds with a nice card, and what looked to me like the patient’s fingerprints on the back of the card. Takesha asked that we please mail these items to the patient’s family, and she asked if we could please include a handwritten note from her to the family, expressing her condolences. Takesha had just finished her night shift, and she shared with me that she was due in again tonight, but she expressed how important it was to her that she get these items to the family, along with the note. Takesha explained that this was a sad situation, and unfortunately, the patient got rather sick rather quickly, and she had gotten to know the patient and the family while they were here. I was truly taken aback that Takesha took the time after her shift, which could not have been an easy one, to bring these items down to us, sit in our office, and handwrite this note of condolences to the patient’s family. I am also pleased to share that when I called the patient’s husband to express our condolences and let him know we would be mailing him the items, he shared how amazing the care team was while his wife was here. He said, “Your nurses are truly unbelievable, and there is not a bad apple in the bunch.” The patient’s husband started to get emotional on the phone, but before he hung up, he asked that I please pass along the message and let the team know how grateful he and his family are for the incredible care they provided to his wife.
