She's been one of the best nurses I have come into contact with since I’ve been here. For example, every time I use my call light, she’s right there to make sure I’m okay and that I have everything I need to be comfortable. There are many times when I don’t even have to put my call light on, and she’s right there making sure I’m okay. She doesn’t diminish my feelings or concerns; I barely have to turn on my light before she’s there. If I turn on my light, she doesn’t take long to respond. She takes time to listen to me, especially when I’m having a bad day. She advocates for me without me even knowing it. She is a great listener. She is full of compassion and empathy for her patients. You can tell she genuinely cares for her patients. When she is my nurse, I never have to ask her twice for my medications. I have been sick since I was 19 years of age, and I’m 58 now. I have been in a lot of hospitals, and she ranks high on my list for one of the best nurses in Michigan, and I feel like I have the authority to say that because I have come across some not-so-good nurses in this same hospital.

I just can’t say it enough; she has more compassion in her little finger than most nurses have in their whole body. She is an extraordinary nurse who goes above and beyond her call and duties. If I have a question she can’t answer, she finds the answer. Another sign of compassion she has shown is when I shared with her that my son has been missing since May 1st of this year, and I was having a bad day; she just sat there rubbing my leg and letting me know that everything is going to be okay. She sat there the entire time until I got through that moment. So when I say she deserves this award, that is an understatement. She deserves that and more!

Thank you, Sylvia, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
