April 2026 Honoree
Sylvia Black, BSN, RN, CPN
From the moment I heard Sylvia laugh, I knew she was going to be an amazing nurse. She brought warmth and calm into what had been a really tough night in the ER. We had never stayed in a hospital before and had no idea what to expect, but Sylvia made my daughter feel so comfortable and cared for.
When the doctors came by, my daughter was too shy to talk to them, but Sylvia brought her out of her shell. She helped her feel safe enough to express how she was feeling, which made such a difference in her care. That's such a special gift: to help a child feel seen, heard, and at ease in such a stressful situation.
Sylvia went above and beyond in every way. When the play area on the floor was closed, she found games, sticker puzzles, and special activities just for my daughter. She made everything feel okay.
I could tell she was also an incredible advocate for my daughter's care; she worked closely with the doctors to make sure everything was dialed in and done the right way.
When you have an outstanding nurse, you can tell. They bring a kind of magic to what they do; you feel cared for in every possible way. I truly hope we never have to stay in the hospital again, but if we do, I want Sylvia to be our nurse.
---
Sylvia is wonderful. She brought life every time she walked through the door (and her laugh was contagious!) She also gave great care to my daughter- was aware of her pain without her even mentioning it.
Sylvia always provided excellent clinical care for my teenager. We appreciated her communication with the doctors and her willingness to advocate for us multiple times. Sylvia made our stay much better!
Thank you, Sylvia, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
