Sydney Running saved my life. I arrived at Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Labor and Delivery to have my fourth and final baby. After three uncomplicated vaginal deliveries, I expected a similar experience. Labor progressed slowly, and Sydney was incredible from the start. She continuously monitored me, helped with positioning, communicated clearly with both me and the physicians, managed my pain, and provided exceptional care and attention.

After reaching full dilation and pushing, it became clear that my baby was not descending as expected, and we decided to proceed with my first cesarean section. Shortly afterward, I felt that something was seriously wrong. I told Sydney that I didn't feel okay and that we needed to move quickly. She listened, trusted me, and acted immediately. While others believed there was still time to prepare, Sydney insisted on getting me to the operating room right away. That decision proved lifesaving.

During surgery, doctors discovered catastrophic internal injuries that required extensive emergency procedures, massive blood replacement, and hours of surgical repair. My baby was delivered safely, and I received the care needed to survive. Sydney remained by my side throughout the ordeal, staying well beyond her shift and checking on me in the ICU. She later helped me understand what had happened during the time I was unconscious.

During my recovery, she continued to visit and check on me, even after I was no longer on the labor and delivery unit and after I was discharged home. I firmly believe that if Sydney had not trusted my intuition and acted so quickly, I might not be here today. Because of Sydney and the incredible surgical team, I am home with my family, recovering well, and my baby is healthy and thriving.
