She didn’t just help me deliver a baby; she helped me reclaim strength and confidence in my body and advocated like no other.
I am honored to nominate Sydney for a DAISY Award for the extraordinary compassion, advocacy, and clinical excellence she demonstrated during one of the most important moments of my life. Since I work in the ER, I understand firsthand how powerful a skilled and attentive nurse can be and experiencing it as a patient was life changing.
I desperately wanted a VBAC, and from the moment I was wheeled from eval, Sydney made it her mission to support that goal safely and wholeheartedly. She is kind, patient, and unwavering in her advocacy. She ensured my voice was heard and protected my birth plan with professionalism and confidence. I never once felt rushed, dismissed, or pressured into unnecessary interventions. She communicated clearly with the provider and made sure no unjust procedures were performed. I felt safe because she was there, not just clinically, but personally.
Sydney's clinical skills are exceptional. She constantly repositioned me, took the time to place me in hands-and-knees even with my epidural, and worked tirelessly to create the best possible conditions for a successful VBAC. She balanced EBP with intuitive, compassionate care in a way that only truly great nurses can.
Beyond her clinical excellence, Sydney's presence was calming and empowering. She spoke with my husband and even took time to connect with my three-year-old daughter, who was present. In a vulnerable moment, she made our entire family feel supported and included.
Because of her dedication and advocacy, I achieved the VBAC I had so deeply hoped for, which allowed me to return to my fast-paced role in the ER with confidence. She didn’t just help me deliver a baby; she helped me reclaim strength and confidence in my body and advocated like no other.
What makes this even more meaningful is that she was also my mentor during my L&D clinicals on that very floor. The way Sydney presents herself is exactly the kind of nurse I aspire to be. She teaches by example every single day. Her communication, clinical judgment, advocacy, and humanity embody everything the DAISY Award represents. She did not just provide care; she made a lasting impact on my life and career.
