Susan Seal, RN
Susan is an exceptional nurse. From the moment she began caring for my dad until the very end, she demonstrated a level of compassion and empathy greater than anyone I have ever experienced.
My dad was hospitalized for more than a week, and Susan was assigned to his care multiple times, including the last two days of his life. She carefully explained everything she was doing to my mom and me as she performed her tasks. What touched us most was that she continued to speak to and explain everything to my dad, even when he was unresponsive. She always took her time, and we never felt rushed or dismissed.
Susan was professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly patient. She allowed us the time we needed to make difficult decisions and never pressured us in any way. Every interaction she had with my dad and our family was marked by grace, kindness, and respect.
During one of the most difficult times of our lives, Susan provided not only excellent nursing care but also comfort and dignity. She was selfless in her actions as shift change occurred during his passing, and she never made us feel like she was rushing us or that we needed to leave. She remained present, compassionate, and supportive, allowing us space while reassuring us that she was not leaving us.
Susan truly exemplifies everything the DAISY Award represents. Sentara is fortunate to have a nurse of her caliber on its team. Her dedication, compassion, and commitment to patient-centered care deserve recognition.
