I would like to nominate Susan Rezende for the DAISY Nurse Educator Award. Susan exemplifies what it means to be a dedicated, compassionate, and inspiring nurse educator. She is always available for her team- whether it is answering questions, jumping in on a busy floor, or simply offering encouragement when it’s needed most.

Susan is currently serving as the lead investigator for our Perinatal Services IRB-approved Aromatherapy Research Project. Susan took on this role with no prior research experience and is doing amazing. She immersed herself in the process, demonstrating perseverance, curiosity, and commitment to evidence-based practice. Because of her determination, the project is now almost complete, and Susan will proudly present the findings at an upcoming professional conference in Orlando next month. This not only advances our unit but also contributes to the nursing profession.

In addition to her research contributions, Susan coordinates the SIM Bus for our Mock Codes, ensuring staff have opportunities to refine their critical skills in a supportive learning environment. She also plays an active role in Florida Perinatal Quality Council initiatives, always focused on improving outcomes for mothers and babies in our community.

What makes Susan’s accomplishments even more extraordinary is that she is doing all of this while simultaneously pursuing her master’s degree. Balancing graduate studies with her professional responsibilities, she continues to lead by example, showing her colleagues the value of lifelong learning and personal growth.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Susan’s character shines every day. She comes to work with a positive attitude and has a natural willingness to help create an environment where staff feel supported and valued.
