I am writing to enthusiastically nominate Susan Gandy for the DAISY Award.  In recognition of the outstanding care and dedication she demonstrated while caring for my grandmother in the ICU.  From the moment she was assigned to my grandmother’s care, Susan provided a level of care, compassion and professionalism that went beyond our expectations and left an indelible mark on our family during a challenging time.  

Throughout my grandmother’s stay, Susan was consistently attentive, patient, and proactive, ensuring that all of her needs were met. She took the time to explain each step of the care process, helping to ease our reassuring demeanor, bringing an immense sense of comfort to our family, and making a difficult experience more bearable. 

In addition to the wonderful care she provided, she was also precepting a new nurse.  I couldn’t help but notice how unbelievably helpful, thorough, patient, and encouraging she was with her trainee.  With just the little bit I witnessed, I learned too. She managed to create an enthusiastic learning environment with a positive atmosphere even though she was juggling many tasks.  She is definitely a role model and a great asset to this organization.  

Beyond her professional skills, it was Susan’s genuine compassion that set her apart.  She treated my grandmother with the utmost dignity, carefully tending to her needs while always showing empathy and respect.  There was a time when my grandmother was feeling really anxious and scared.  She stayed with her, talking and calming her until she felt at ease.  It was clear to us that her commitment went beyond a duty- it was a true calling.  

Susan Gandy is a remarkable nurse whose dedication and kindness are an inspiration to us all.  Our family is eternally grateful for her presence during this difficult time, and we are honored to nominate her for the DAISY Award.  She is truly deserving of this recognition, and we hope her compassionate care will continue to bring comfort to other families as it did for ours.
