He may have only cared for my dad for a few hours, but he took the time to get to know us all and make a scary situation a little brighter.
Steve took care of my dad after a major cardiac surgery. We thought we knew what to expect, but quickly realized we were unaware of many things. While my dad was just out of surgery, Steve took the time to explain everything that was going on (even though I am also a nurse, he didn't assume I knew what was happening).

When my dad was extubated, Steve made sure to put his glasses on, so he knew what was going on. He also offered mouthwash before putting his dentures back in. He let us ask a million questions, call for updates a few times, and sit with him, and never made us feel unwelcome or like a burden. We didn't always know what questions to ask, but he knew what kind of information we wanted.

He was compassionate, personable, soft spoken, and always addressed my dad, even though he was groggy. He may have only cared for my dad for a few hours, but he took the time to get to know us all and make a scary situation a little brighter. We hated to leave Dad, but knew he was in great hands when we did.

Thank you, Steve, for being the nurse you are.
