August 2026 Honoree
Steven Blaize Tenorio, RN
A patient was admitted to the hospital following surgery and experienced a difficult recovery with serious complications. During the hospital stay, the patient received exceptional care from many skilled, attentive, and compassionate nurses and techs, and the family was deeply grateful for the kindness shown.
The care team explained that an additional procedure was the only possible treatment option, though it carried significant risk and only a small chance of success.
After learning about the available options, the patient made the deeply personal decision to forgo further intervention and requested comfort-focused care. The family understood the seriousness of the situation and hoped above all that the patient’s pain would be kept to an absolute minimum.
As the patient’s condition progressed, effective pain management became increasingly important. Medication was needed more frequently, and the timing of each dose became critical.
For everyone at the bedside, every moment of comfort mattered. The family wanted nothing more than for the patient to be peaceful, free from pain, and surrounded by love.
After a particularly difficult period, it was clear that something extraordinary needed to be done.
That is when Steven Tenorio came into the family’s life. Steven came on as the nurse responsible for the patient’s care while also tending to his other patients on the floor. From the moment he entered the room, he seemed to understand the seriousness of the patient’s condition and the emotional weight being carried by those gathered at the bedside.
Steven’s sincerity and genuine concern were remarkable. He cared for the patient with quiet confidence and treated the family with a tenderness they will never forget. He spoke with them, comforted them, answered their questions, and made them feel less alone in one of the most painful moments of their lives. Though he was early in his nursing career, his poise, knowledge, compassion, and attention to detail reflected an extraordinary level of care and maturity.
When it became clear that more frequent medication was needed to keep the patient comfortable, Steven recognized the urgency without hesitation. He managed his time and responsibilities so that he could return to the room consistently and carefully, ensuring the patient’s wishes were honored and that the final hours were peaceful and calm.
Because of Steven’s attentiveness and extraordinary compassion, the patient passed peacefully and gently.
Afterward, the charge nurse shared that this was the first patient in Steven’s care to pass away. That made what the family witnessed even more meaningful. There was a calm grace in the way he carried himself; reassuring, honest, informative, and fully present. In a moment filled with grief, he brought dignity, comfort, and a sense of peace.
The family is certain Steven has found the profession he was meant for. They will always be grateful for the care he gave and for the compassion he showed. They can only hope that, when they someday need a nurse, they are fortunate enough to be cared for by someone like Steven Tenorio.
