Stephanie was the lead nurse on the 3rd floor while my husband was recovering from a severe rectal abscess. We were admitted through the ED after our primary called ahead due to the severity. She took over his case. She understood everything we had undergone the day and night before, and educated both of us further on what the plan looked like for the day.
She and her techs were friendly, compassionate, and easy to ask questions on things we didn’t understand. As we were told there was another surgery coming in just a few hours, she was comforting during the prep process and reassuring. After his return to the room, her spirit was uplifted, and her compassion was still at the same level.
My husband was having a bit of an issue with urination and was not at all looking forward to the possibility of another straight catheter procedure. We walked the halls for many steps, concerned, and we spoke with Stephanie about this possibility. She actually took the time to explain how everything worked, how the prostate and rectal wall led to the bladder, and how the catheter could be more irritating to the healing process. He managed to empty his bladder not long after.
She did this in a comfortable manner and not by statements like, “If you don’t do this, then we will need to do this.” She is fun, easy to talk to about any questions regarding the processes, and genuinely nice.
