And lo and behold, Miss Stephanie came out to greet us! Tears instantly started flowing as I finally had the chance to tell her just how much she meant to my family all these years. I could tell that her heart needed to hear that.
My daughter will be 8 in July, and we have been seeing Dr. E since I was about 22 weeks pregnant with her. During my pregnancy and my daughter's infancy, which included open heart surgery at three months old, there was always one nurse who made us feel welcome and comforted the entire time we were in the office. Stephanie loved my baby girl like she was her own and often held and loved on her whenever we came in. She was one of the only ones who could calm my daughter enough to get an accurate blood pressure reading on her tiny arms. Her loving care for my fragile baby has made a huge impact on our family. Thankfully, as time went on, my daughter was reduced to annual checkups, but that meant we didn't see Stephanie as much anymore. Every time we came to the Norfolk office for an appointment, I would always ask, "Is Miss Stephanie the nurse here today?" and for a long time, the answer was no. We went a few years without seeing her, and I had just assumed that she had moved on to a different job, until we went for our annual appointment this week! Only this time, we went to the Chesapeake office. And lo and behold, Miss Stephanie came out to greet us! Tears instantly started flowing as I finally had the chance to tell her just how much she meant to my family all these years. I could tell that her heart needed to hear that. But I didn't think it was enough. That's why I am writing this entry today. Miss Stephanie is an angel in disguise for all of these kids. She is truly working in a field that she is called to be in. Her love for her patients and their families is phenomenal. Her character and personality are wonderful. She managed to make a brand-new young mom feel at ease with a medically fragile baby, and I will forever be grateful to her for that. I hope that she never loses the passion she has for her career because she truly makes such a profound difference. We need more people like Miss Stephanie in this world.
