I will never forget her care and kindness to him in his final months.
Almost on a weekly basis over a 2-month period Stephanie admitted my husband for blood transfusions in the area dedicated to infusion services at ERMC. However, she did more than just skillfully set up an IV. Stephanie was diligent in tending to his every need during the 2-3 hours it was required to complete a transfusion. She brought him fluids, helped him change positions, and adjusted pillows to keep him as comfortable as possible as well as aiding him with bathroom needs.
It was an extremely difficult time for my husband and me since we were grappling with the knowledge that his condition was terminal. Completely sensitive to this, Stephanie kept us abreast of lab results, offering support with difficult decisions we were facing. I remember Stephanie giving me a hug on one occasion when I desperately needed a hug.
My husband succumbed to a type of blood cancer in July. I will never forget her care and kindness to him in his final months. I believe Stephanie personifies what it means to be a nurse, one who is dedicated to her profession and compassionate. Since I feel she is well deserving of special recognition, it is my pleasure to nominate her for the DAISY Award.
