Stephanie DesChane, BSN, RN, CLC
I would like to nominate Stephanie, RN and lactation consultant, for a DAISY Award because of the extraordinary compassion, expertise, and encouragement she showed our family during our newborn daughter's appointment.
We arrived at our appointment about 30 minutes late because of an unexpected mishap at home. As parents of a newborn and a 2-year-old, we were worried we had missed our chance to receive the support we needed. After talking with Dr. Joshua Fields about our goal of exclusively breastfeeding, he asked if Stephanie could see us that same day. Despite our late arrival and what I'm sure was a busy schedule, Stephanie was able to see us with virtually no wait. We never felt like an inconvenience, and we were incredibly grateful for the time she made for us.
Stephanie took the time to observe a feeding, answer every question we had, and provide personalized guidance that fit our family's goals. She celebrated what was already going well while gently offering practical suggestions to help us continue building confidence. Throughout the visit, she was patient, reassuring, and completely free of judgment.
What made the biggest difference was how genuinely invested she was in our success. She didn't just teach us breastfeeding techniques - she gave us confidence during a time that can feel overwhelming for any family. We left feeling encouraged, supported, and empowered to continue working toward our goal of exclusively breastfeeding.
Stephanie's kindness, clinical expertise, and willingness to make time for our family turned what could have been a stressful day into an incredibly positive experience. Her compassionate care has already made a meaningful difference in our breastfeeding journey, and we are so grateful for the impact she had on our family.
