Steph was a calming presence to me due to her cheery, upbeat personality
I do not know Steph’s last name. She was my nurse. I was admitted to the hospital after being in the ER due to something going on in my mouth. They were not able to exactly pinpoint the issue, as the right side of my face was hugely swollen. I was told that I needed oral surgery. I was in a very bad mental and emotional state due to this, but I wasn’t really sure what was going on, as I was told various possibilities. I was told that the oral surgeon would consult with me that day. He did not. My stay proceeded to get worse due to a lack of communication from the surgeon to the medical staff. By the time Steph came into my room at 7 am, she was dealing with a very unhappy patient. She was very kind and assuring. She definitely let me know she cared about my situation and proceeded to do so throughout the day. Additionally, she had such a happy attitude that you couldn’t help but smile when she was near. Circumstances got worse throughout that day, and I became more distraught and now angry. I did not want to be there another day. Steph continued to be supportive. I actually felt that she was understanding exactly how I felt. She told me that she was a good listener and if I wanted to talk, she was there for me. Steph was a calming presence to me due to her cheery, upbeat personality - she actually had me laughing at one point. She was a very professional nurse with kindness and warmth exuding from her. She made me feel at ease and comforted. I was sad when she told me I probably would not see her anymore during my stay, but she wished me the best. I told her thank you, and I knew I just had to hug her before she left. With that said, I would like for Steph to be considered for a DAISY Award. Thank you for your time.
