Stacy, RN, took excellent care of me, and I thank God he sent Stacy to care for me that very day.
I was being treated for a bacteria-resistant infection, and these treatments were done 250 miles from Durham, in a major hospital infectious disease clinic. So I was being treated by DRS. and infusion nurses, which gave me a feel of how I wanted to be treated. At 77 years old, these treatments can be stressful. A PICC line was put in by my nurse, but I was not aware that Dukes’ infusion center cannot service the lines, ex. change dressing on 7 day. So, as I approached the 7th day, I was told by the clinic staff that I would have to get a home health nurse to come out and change the dressing, etc. This put extra stress on me as I can not call a home health care nurse, having no doctor's orders, etc, plus a Holiday Weekend! But thank God I came to the clinic for my appointment, my nurse came over and introduced herself. She asked important questions, and I told her I was stressed from the CT scan I had the day before and was afraid the constraint dye may have affected my line! She, Nurse Stacy Matthews, patted my hand and said, "Do not worry! I am an IV Nurse Specialist and will take care of all your needs. You relax and ask me anything you need to know, I am here for you!"
She tried to flush my line, but it wouldn't flush. She said she would take care of everything. Then she said, "First, I will order a prescription to flush your line, and this prescription takes 30 minutes, so I am going to put in your other arm a temporary partial, and I can go ahead and get you your ertapenem treatment!" Then she said she noticed it was time to change my IV PIPP line dressing. I said I was told no one here can do that. She replied with a smile and said she has complete knowledge of IV, as an IV Specialist Nurse can change my dressing now. That was a big load for me. Stacy, RN, took excellent care of me, and I thank God he sent Stacy to care for me that very day. Duke should be very proud to have her working in Duke’s Infusion Center. Nurses like her and other staff are what make Duke rated #17 in the USA. A hospital is no better than its employees. This is from an old man who has experienced a lot of hospital events! But, I never forget Nurse Stacey Matthew’s in my time of need.
