He is now home and has done well due to the rapid response of Stacia and the team.
A 37-week 3-day pregnant female presented to our Labor and Delivery Department. Stacia, RN, placed her on the monitor and, within minutes, knew something was not right. Stacia recognized she had symptoms of a uterine rupture and immediately took action that ultimately saved the mom and baby’s lives. Stacia notified Dr. W of her assessment. He arrived at the bedside within 4 minutes. The patient was taken to the C-section suite due to undetermined Fetal Heart Tones (FHTs), and delivery was accomplished within 32 minutes of mom’s arrival in the department. The baby did experience respiratory distress with APGAR scores of 0, 4, 4, 6, 7. He was intubated and transferred to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for a higher level of care. He is now home and has done well due to the rapid response of Stacia and the team. Dr. W gave the credit to Stacia’s quick assessment. He said the three things she did made the difference: recognizing what was happening, communicating what was happening, and escalating what was happening. Stacia is a Hero! With her skill set, knowledge, and compassion, she made a huge difference in the outcome of the mom and baby!
