Staci exemplifies humanity and empathy, an aspect of nursing that is often forgotten.
Mr. C came to our facility facing a fairly rapid decline. During this incredibly vulnerable time, Staci consistently went above and beyond for not only the patient, but his family as well. She made this difficult time one of peace, comfort, and profound dignity for Mr. C and his family. This nurse took time to explain every step of the process, answer all the family questions with patience and understanding. On the night of 06/11/2025 during my 23:00 rounds, I found that she had stayed beside with Mr. C after giving his hourly meds. She was softly singing to him and helping to reposition him to bring him peace. Mr. C's family was unable to stay by his side overnight and she took extra time to ensure Mr. C knew he wasn't alone.
During Mr. C's care she maintained his dignity and respect. Even as his condition declined she always spoke to him directly, explained what she was doing, and treated him with utmost respect and reverence. This nurse made sure Mr. C's personal preferences were honored, making sure he knew he was seen and valued, until the end. She anticipated the needs of Mr. C's family. She empathized with them and listened as they shared stories from his life. She brought extra blankets and seating for his family. She encouraged his family to take breaks and assured them that she would keep them informed with his care and condition. She helped create a peaceful environment for Mr. C and his family.
The family shared he enjoyed gospel music. When his family was unable to be by his side she softly played music for Mr. C. She understood having a peaceful surrounding was just as important as the medical care. Staci exemplifies humanity and empathy, an aspect of nursing that is often forgotten. She delivered the best care, with the utmost dignity and respect. She ensured a difficult experience was marked by dignity, love, and serenity. Her exceptional skill, unwavering compassion, and profound dedication to her patients in these most vulnerable moments embodies the spirit of the DAISY award.
