The patient credits Stacey’s small acts of kindness—her smile, patience, and consistent attentiveness—with helping her heal not only physically but emotionally.
A retired registered nurse was rushed to the ER with chest pain and admitted to the cardiac unit, where she soon met a very special nurse. From the beginning, her nurse stood out for her kindness, attentiveness, and compassion. As a former nurse herself, the patient deeply appreciated these qualities and understood how meaningful they are during vulnerable moments. Her nurse checked on her multiple times throughout her shift, carefully explained each upcoming test, and made sure she felt informed and reassured. She also ensured someone would be with her during procedures, easing much of her anxiety.

The patient was ultimately diagnosed with Broken Heart Syndrome rather than a heart attack, and she was incredibly relieved when all of her studies came back negative. She and her nurse shared lighthearted moments, swapped stories, and laughed about how her “broken heart” may have been caused by missing her grandchildren, who had recently moved to Texas. Just as quickly as the symptoms appeared, they disappeared.

Throughout her stay, Stacey took the time to thoroughly explain the diagnosis, what a Broken Heart was, and the recovery process, offering both emotional support and professional guidance. The patient credits Stacey’s small acts of kindness—her smile, patience, and consistent attentiveness—with helping her heal not only physically but emotionally. Grateful for both her recovery and the exceptional care she received, she later traveled to Dallas to reunite with her grandchildren, reflecting on how compassionate nursing can make even a frightening experience feel much less daunting. She said it was like flying on the wings of an angel.
