Stacey is always an extraordinary nurse. She is compassionate, helpful, energetic and positive. She goes out of her way to provide education to our staff whenever needed. The staff know that she is a great resource and that they can reach out to her for help. She is one of the most sought after nurses, when a someone needs help, yet she never gets frustrated or overwhelmed by the requests.
Stacey is thoughtful, present and compassionate. She listens to the patient's and family's needs and follows through with helping them. On one day, in particular, we had a family whose child had severe cardiac problems and he was passing away. This family spoke Spanish only and we had no interpreter available. Stacey could not fathom only using Cyracom to speak with the parents. She went above and beyond to get a nurse from the Cardiology floor, who spoke Spanish, to come and talk with the family. I told Stacey that since the nurse was not an interpreter she could not interpret for the doctors, so I did not understand why Stacey was so adamant on bring her down to the ED. Stacey said that she understood that the nurse could not do formal medical interpretation but that the family deserved to have somebody who they could talk with and have a discussion with in their language. She asked me, "wouldn't you want that if it was your kid?" and I said yes.
This was very moving to me and a wonderful resource for this family. They will probably never forget having a nurse present who could hear them grieve and show compassion in their language.
