Sophie was caring for a new mum on the postnatal ward with very difficult social circumstances and an uncertain future ahead. Sophie’s approach was unfailingly compassionate, supportive, and kind throughout. She was a strong advocate for the woman to other services including social work housing and the specialist midwifery team in the community.

The new mum was often very upset by her situation, struggling to manage the complexities of both a newborn and the situation she found herself in, but Sophie provided exceptional support both practically and emotionally. Despite a significant language barrier, when another professional asked if we could do anything else, the woman replied, "Get Sophie." This demonstrated the outstanding care and support she showed.
