When she questioned something, she called in a second set of eyes for reassurance.
I have feared breast cancer for over a decade. All my family, men and women, have had cancer. Two have died. I was terrified. I felt vulnerable in the hospital after having prophylactic surgery/reconstruction. There is an angel working in the ICU: She was kind, compassionate, and skilled. This nurse shared her personal connection with what I was going through. She was a calming presence. I trusted this nurse literally with my life. When I was told I had the option to go home or stay another night, I looked to her for guidance, as she had been with me when I nearly fainted earlier that day. She conferred with others; I stayed. This nurse's instincts impressed me. When she questioned something, she called in a second set of eyes for reassurance. When I found out my pathology results were clear, I needed her to know. She was training a student nurse; I can't think of a better role model for future nurses. Thank you. I was blessed with your outstanding care.
