She helped save my life by changing my mindset.
I went into the hospital expecting routine surgery for endometriosis, but my story quickly changed. My bowel was perforated three times, leading to multiple emergency surgeries and days in the ICU. I came face-to-face with a level of pain and fear I had never known before. There were moments I truly did not know how I was going to keep going and moments I didn’t think I would live to see another day.

In the middle of that pain, God placed people in my life exactly when I needed them. One of those people was Nurse Sophia Christopher.

I had many wonderful nurses during my 10-day stay, but Sophia was different. She did not just care for my physical needs. She saw my heart in the middle of everything I was going through.

There were days I would tell my family I could not get out of bed. My body felt too weak. I didn’t have it in me to push. And every time, Sophia would come sit beside me. She never forced me. She never made me feel guilty for struggling. She met me right where I was.

She would ask me about home. About the people I love. About the life waiting for me outside the hospital. We talked about my dogs and how I wanted to get home to them. And then she would remind me, kindly but firmly, that getting back to those things meant taking the next step, even if it hurt.

She held my hand when I stood up. She stayed with me in moments when I felt like I might not make it. She promised me probably a thousand times that I was okay.

Even when she was just walking by, she would stop, smile, and remind me without words that I was not alone when she would see me finally doing the therapy I had been avoiding.

Sophia saw my pain, but she also saw my strength when I couldn’t. I truly believe that was not by accident. I believe God used her in those moments to carry me when I felt like I could not carry myself.

Sophia was a light. She was comfort. She was encouragement. She was the hands and feet of Jesus in my healing.

Because of her, I got up when I didn’t think I could. Because of her, I kept going when everything in me wanted to stop. And because of her, I moved closer to healing.

Nursing is not just a job. It is a calling. And Sophia is clearly walking in hers. The way she cares, the way she encourages, the way she loves her patients goes far beyond what is required. I know that for a DAISY, you have to go above and beyond your job. She didn’t just give me my medications and smile. She helped save my life by changing my mindset.

I will carry her impact with me for the rest of my life. I truly believe God placed her in my story for a reason, and I will never forget what she did for me when I needed it most.

Sophia Christopher is more than deserving of a DAISY.
