I had been in the hospital for the majority of the last year, critically ill. And every admission, this nurse’s face pops up! And my god, are we glad it does. His smile, humour, and excellent rapport with all patients, his colleagues, and patients’ family and friends are invaluable and a skill hard to find. You cannot help having your spirits lifted and a smile on your face when he is around.

Not only this, but his dedication to his work and his passion for nursing are consistently done to a very high standard. I have followed his journey by being cared for by him efficiently and empathetically with his humorous and personable demeanour in resus to his application to ICU that he was so focused and hopeful he would get to expand his knowledge and skills, so that in his wards he could help patients to the best possible care by implementing his already, in our opinion, competent and advanced skills incorporated by the further skills he would learn.

He has a heart of gold and has helped me get through some of the darkest times, some firsthand with his treatment as a nurse, but just, if not more importantly, with his unique personality and people skills and way with me and all patients to evoke a smile, a laugh and most of all hope.
