Simran is an excellent nursing student who always goes above and beyond. She is determined, passionate, and cares very deeply about all of the patients she cares for and people in general.

As a Bonner Community Scholar and an AmeriCorps member, she addresses food insecurity and health promotion issues specifically in the homebound population of Mercer County. She takes initiative to serve her community and seeks opportunities to address health inequities and to advocate for underserved communities and groups.

During clinical, Simran showed compassionate care since the first day of clinical. She consoled a patient who did not primarily speak English, was confused, and scared during her hospitalization. Simran consoled her, held her hand, and was a consistent smiling face of reassurance during her shift. This was just the start. The semester of empathy and compassionate nursing care continued with every patient encounter.
