I was seen at the JBER Emergency Room after suffering a fall. I arrived around 10 pm and stayed in the ER until about 2 am. As someone who is currently pregnant, this was an incredibly frightening and emotional experience; I was not only worried about my own injury but terrified that my fall could have caused harm to my unborn child. I first want to recognize Nurse Renshaw for the exceptional care he provided to me and my spouse.

From the beginning he was attentive compassionate and genuinely kind I was embarrassed and scared by the situation, but he never made me feel uncomfortable or like my concerns were insignificant. His friendly personality and sense of humor helped ease so much of our anxiety. He kept my spouse and me laughing throughout what otherwise would have been a very stressful and frightening night.

What stood out most was the amount of care and attention he put into even the smallest details. He took the time to make sure my splint was properly sized, secure, and as comfortable as possible, especially considering my pregnancy. He didn't just complete the task and move on. He made sure I understood what he was doing and took the time to educate me about the orthopedic services and follow-up care available here at JBER. I felt cared for as a person rather than treated as another patient. Nurse Renshaw brought kindness, compassion, humor, and reassurance into one of the more frightening moments of my pregnancy. Having someone who could make us smile while still taking my concerns seriously made an enormous difference. He is exactly the type of person you hope to encounter when you find yourself unexpectedly in an emergency room.

That night reminded me that excellent emergency care is about more than treating an injury. It is also about making someone feel safe, heard, respected, and cared for during a vulnerable moment. His compassion, attentiveness, humor, and genuine kindness turned a traumatic experience into one where my spouse and I felt supported and reassured. I am incredibly grateful for the care I received from him and the entire JBER Emergency Department. Thank you for taking such wonderful care of me and my growing family.

Thank you, Silas, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
