Overall, Sian makes me feel valued and important. She makes me feel like I matter as a human being, not just a patient in a hospital bed.
I was admitted to Adult Intensive Care at Queen’s Medical Centre on 13 after being hit by a lorry and suffering major injuries across my whole body. Sian was involved in my care from the very beginning, although I don’t remember most of that time. My reason for nominating Sian is for the exceptional care she has given me more recently.

Sian has supported me through each move in my recovery — from ICU to HDU, and now from HDU to a general ward. She has helped me manage my anxiety by preparing me thoroughly for each transition and organising insightful visits for my family. Sian comes to see me on every shift she works, and we always have lovely conversations. She listens to me properly when I am in pain, taking my concerns seriously and helping to alleviate my discomfort when others have dismissed me.

She is also wonderful with my family, involving them in discussions about my care and helping them with administrative tasks. One thing I find particularly comforting about Sian is that she always sticks to her word.

Overall, Sian makes me feel valued and important. She makes me feel like I matter as a human being, not just a patient in a hospital bed. This has greatly reduced my anxiety and stress, especially as I can find it hard to trust people. I am truly grateful for everything she has done for me.
