I am recognizing Shvan Kurdi from the ICU for the extraordinary care he has provided to my father after complications from a partial colon removal required him to return to the hospital. The leaking he experienced was extremely dangerous, and it was one of the scariest times our family has ever faced.

From the very beginning, Shvan was professional, punctual, and incredibly regimented in the best possible way. You could immediately tell he truly cared for his patients. Even on the hardest days, he found gentle jokes and lighthearted moments that made my father and all of us smile.

After several nights with him as my father's nurse, my dad suddenly developed an arrhythmia. In a moment that could have easily become overwhelming, Shvan stayed completely calm and focused. He quickly retrieved the monitors, alerted the appropriate doctors, and explained every step to us so we understood exactly what was happening. His ability to keep my father comfortable while keeping us informed turned a frightening situation into something we could manage. That calm confidence meant everything.

One of the moments that touched us most was when Shvan picked up a shift on his day off just so he could take care of my father again. That monumental act gave my mother and me the peace of mind to finally get some sleep, knowing someone so vigilant and caring was watching over him. The peace of mind was priceless.

Since that day, whenever he is working, he always stops in to say hello to my dad even when he isn't assigned to him. If he walks by and sees the door open, he pops his head in to make sure my father is feeling okay. He checks on me and my mother as well, always offering a smile, a joke, or a moment of reassurance. His smile is infectious, and you can tell he loves his job and takes great pride and joy in seeing my father get better.

He is thoughtful about minimizing disturbances so my dad can rest, and he consistently checks to see if our family needs anything. His professionalism, steady presence, kindness, and positive outlook have been some of the best medicine we've had during this difficult time.
