I had surgery. In post-op, I was given water and a cracker. My mouth felt like a desert, so dry! After a couple of nibbles on a saltine, I gave it back to Shirley. It was hard to swallow the dry cracker. I told Shirley what I really needed was chocolate! We both had to laugh over that one.

Then I was moved to a room. A short time later, Shirley showed up with a small pack of M&Ms. I was so impressed with her going the extra mile over an offhand comment like that. Dry mouth was an issue I dealt with all day. Finally I opened the packet of M&Ms and put two in my mouth. Wah la! Saliva and sips of water really helped with the dryness.

I kept taking two M&Ms and water all day. Who knew a small packet of M&Ms could be so helpful? I'm so glad Shirley went the extra mile over a silly off-hand comment. When I came to I was in a heck of a lot of pain and Shirley helped get me into a better place rather quickly.

Yup - drugs and chocolate - a winning combination.
