September 2026 Honoree
Sheryl Wright, Staff RN
From the moment I met my nurse, I knew it would be a good day. Her smile, kindness, and attention to detail were second to none. Throughout the day, we shared stories about our lives, our families, and our love for Jesus. I truly believe God places certain people in our paths for a reason, and Sheryl was one of those people for me.
When it was time to be discharged, Sheryl sat beside me on my bed, across from my daughter, and carefully explained everything. She even taught me things about medications I had been taking for years that I never knew! Then something happened that I will carry in my heart forever. Another nurse came in and asked this RN if she had done her side effects song. She laughed and said to him, "You stole my surprise! But I do know this one." And she began singing Amazing Grace. Oh my goodness, that girl can SING! I joined in, and my daughter became emotional.
What Sheryl didn't know was that my husband had passed away exactly 12 years, one month, and one day ago. In that moment, my daughter and I knew that song meant more to us than Sheryl could ever imagine. It was as though God knew exactly what our hearts needed and sent us a little reminder of his love. Sheryl thought she was simply singing to her patient, but she gave my daughter and me a moment we will treasure for the rest of our lives. I've had nothing but wonderful things to say about this hospital, but this experience was unlike anything I've ever encountered.
Sheryl didn't just care for me physically; she touched my heart and soul. She may not remember every patient she cares for, but I promise you I will never forget her. We need more people like her in this world. She reminds us that angels don't always have wings. Sometimes they wear scrubs, sit beside you on a hospital bed, and sing Amazing Grace. I thank God for placing her in my life, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of the DAISY Award.
