With immense pride and gratitude, we honor Sherry B. Perkins, PhD, RN, FAAN, as the recipient of the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award—a testament to her extraordinary career, unwavering commitment to nursing excellence, and transformative leadership at Anne Arundel Medical Center and beyond.
With more than 30 years in health care leadership across major Maryland and Delaware health systems, Dr. Perkins has served with distinction in a variety of roles, including Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and now President of Anne Arundel Medical Center (AAMC). Notably, she is the first nurse to serve as President of AAMC, uniquely positioning her to champion nursing practice and advocate for the patient voice at the highest levels.
As President, Dr. Perkins is a key member of the Luminis Health executive team, helping to shape system-wide strategic goals while ensuring the delivery of high-quality, efficient care. She leads with purpose, compassion, and vision—always grounded in the values of patient-centered care, clinical excellence, and operational integrity.
Under her leadership:
A gifted collaborator, she has fostered strong relationships with physicians and clinical support teams. She ensures that frontline caregivers have the resources needed to meet rising patient volumes while maintaining the highest standards of care. Her leadership style is marked by visibility, humility, a keen sense of humor, and an ability to inspire excellence across all disciplines.
Beyond AAMC, Dr. Perkins is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, an adjunct associate professor at the University of Maryland School of Nursing, and a national advisor to key organizations like the Institute for Patient and Family Centered Care. She holds a BSN from
Baylor University, an MS from Texas Woman’s University, and a PhD from the University of Kansas. She is also a graduate of the Wharton School’s Fellows Program in Management.
With nearly 120 publications to her name and numerous awards—including the YWCA Tribute to Women and Industry Award, the Maryland Nurses Association’s Outstanding Leadership Award, and recognition as an Influential Marylander—Dr. Perkins’ impact is both deep and wide.
She attends every DAISY Award unit celebration, underscoring her heartfelt commitment to recognizing compassionate care at every level.

- · She pioneered the Patient & Family Centered Care Advisory Council in 2008, beginning with initiatives like improved wayfinding and the removal of restricted visiting hours. She continues to attend every monthly council meeting—a reflection of her deep respect for the patient and family voice.
