Throughout my mother-in-law’s stay, she was not only an exceptional nurse to her but also a steady source of comfort and support for us.
I am honoured to recognise Sherri Armstrong for the extraordinary care and compassion she provided to our family during an incredibly difficult time.
My mother-in-law suffered a heart attack and was initially treated at Northside Cherokee Hospital before being life-flighted to Northside Gwinnett. She remained in this cardiac unit for ten days, where Sherri was her primary nurse. From the moment we met, she exemplified everything a nurse should be: kind, knowledgeable, compassionate, and dedicated.
My mother-in-law underwent triple bypass surgery, and the following day, she coded. In those terrifying moments, Sherri was a critical part of the team that revived her, giving us precious extra time with her.
Throughout my mother-in-law’s stay, she was not only an exceptional nurse to her but also a steady source of comfort and support for us. She was there, ensuring my mother-in-law received the best possible care while also taking the time to reassure us, explain everything clearly, and offer a comforting presence when we felt helpless. She knew exactly how to talk to her, gently, yet firmly when needed, and she had an incredible ability to balance medical expertise with heartfelt care.
But what stands out most is how she cared for her in her final moments. We stepped away briefly to get a cup of coffee, and in that short time, my mother-in-law passed away. We were devastated that we weren’t there, but Sherri was. She later told us that she didn’t want her to be alone at that moment, and for that, we will be forever grateful.
Words cannot fully express what her presence meant to us during those ten days. She is more than an outstanding nurse; she is a true angel in scrubs. Her kindness, skill, and selflessness made an unbearable time a little easier, and we can think of no one more deserving of the DAISY Award.
