Her ability to balance swift, critical action with gentle, reassuring care has touched many lives, none more deeply than those who have experienced her compassion firsthand.
In the Philippine Coast Guard, where the call to serve often extends beyond the seas and into the quiet corners of human compassion, LTJG Shelly Mae R Casamar PCG stands out as a nurse whose dedication transcends duty. Known among her peers for her calm confidence, sharp clinical judgment, and deep sense of empathy, she embodies both the heart and the discipline of a true PCG nurse. Her ability to balance swift, critical action with gentle, reassuring care has touched many lives, none more deeply than those who have experienced her compassion firsthand.
From her patient:
I was admitted to the Medical Station Bicol due to diving sickness. When I first arrived at the clinic, Ma'am Shelly thoroughly assessed my condition, provided the necessary intervention, and referred me to the duty medical Officer. The medical officer advised me to proceed to a hospital for further treatment. However, due to financial constraints, I was very hesitant. Because of this, Ma'am Shelly insisted on referring me to the hyperbaric doctor of our organization to lessen the Financial burden since hospitalization alone will cost me hundreds of thousands.
The Duty medical officer then called and got the recommendation that I be transported immediately to Manila for evaluation and hyperbaric treatment. That same day, we traveled to Manila via ambulance for a series of hyperbaric treatments. Throughout the process of my treatment, Ma'am Shelly monitored me every single day. She was the one consistently coordinating with doctors, nurses, and our unit officers, handling my health status and prognosis. I witnessed her compassion, empathy, and critical thinking as she cared for me.
As a patient, I deeply appreciate her efforts and the genuine care she provided without a single complaint. She is truly a remarkable example of what it means to be an extraordinary nursе.
