Shelly went above and beyond for a Swahili-speaking mother. The family had 3 boys who all had procedures and received different dosages of medications postoperatively. The mother of the boys did not speak or read any English, making discharge instructions a challenge.

Shelly recognized that the mother of the boys may not be able to safely administer the boys' medications since they were all different dosages and there was a language barrier. Shelly contacted the pharmacy and case management and was able to get the medications color-coded for each boy to ensure safe medication administration at home, all while giving great bedside care to the boys.

She made the family feel comfortable and ensured mom understood how to safely administer medication. Shelly even called and made the mother of the boys an OB appointment because she is pregnant and missed her appointment because she did not have a ride. Shelly went above and beyond for this family in every aspect of care.
