September 2026 Honoree
Shelley Lomax, BSN, RN
I would like to commend Shelley Lomax for the extraordinary compassion and empathy she showed to a family in our NICU during a very difficult time. The father of one of our NICU babies was diagnosed with terminal cancer and was expected to pass in the coming weeks. Recognizing the profound weight of this moment for the family, Shelley went above and beyond clinical care.
With deep thoughtfulness and love, she purchased a children’s book that allowed the father to record himself reading the story to his baby—creating a priceless keepsake that will allow his voice, love, and presence to live on. This simple yet profoundly meaningful act brought comfort, dignity, and humanity to a situation filled with heartbreak. It reflected Shelley’s ability to truly see the family, honor their story, and care for them far beyond medical needs. Shelley is a beautiful example of what it means to Serve with Empathy. Her actions remind us that love, compassion, and presence are often the most healing gifts we can offer. She represents the very best of who we are and what we stand for at Layton Hospital.
