Shelley listened to our concerns and had my wife and I calmed down and confident that my needs and care would be delivered as if I were royalty.
I was transferred from Hillsday to Borgess for A-fib. I was on medication in my IV. I am embarrassed to write that I became quite upset and loudly expressed my dissatisfaction with another nurse - she was very busy at the time.
Out of nowhere, in walks my angel, nurse Shelley. Shelley immediately asked us how she could help and introduced herself as ‘Shelley, one of the nurses’. Shelley listened to our concerns and had my wife and I calmed down and confident that my needs and care would be delivered as if I were royalty.
Shelley called the nighttime doctor, who came to see me within minutes. She called the hospital about my medication in my IV. She explained that she was adjusting the medication in my IV and brought in a machine to monitor my heart waves and electricity. She answered all of our questions, including drawing us a picture to explain what was happening in my heart. We appreciated this so much that I still have the picture.
I was told that it was too late in the night for my wife to get a room at the hospitality home, but my angel, Shelley, made some calls, asked us some registration questions, and was able to register her online and get her a room.
It wasn't until later that night that our nurse told us that Shelley worked somewhere else in the hospital and actually stayed after her shift to take care of me. Shelley checked in on me every morning and evening until I was sent home. Shelley went above and beyond for me and my wife. Shelley should teach classes on being everything that a nurse should be.
