I arrived at the Thief River Falls Clinic/ Hosp. for an Outpatient Procedure for my grandson "T." Nurse Shelby came to get us from the lobby just before 9 am with such a warm smile. We entered his room, and while we waited for my daughter to arrive, Shelby left our room for a few minutes and returned with a blanket for "T" and a couple of stuffed animals.
This may be a common practice, but each interaction Shelby gave was directed to "T" in such a polite and comforting manner. My daughter arrived, and Shelby continued with her procedure prep questions directed to mom. Again, friendly, smiling, and explaining the questions my daughter had. Shelby was informative to "T" during placing his IV and each step. Everyone let us know and him what was happening next.
A mask was even brought in so he could see what they would be using. I appreciated the care and gentleness used that allowed him to be comfortable and secure. He had no anxiety, no fear, and I commend all the staff for that. Shelby was courteous to ask if we needed anything. Upon "T"'s return, Shelby not only brought "T" a drink and a Jello, but she also offered his three-year-old sister the same.
I need to say that because of the care she gave "T" and the communication from her and the doctor gave me a sense of peace. And for that I thank you, Shelby. "T" is very special to me, and it wasn't easy thinking he was being put under. I realize the procedure may be minor or considered routine. But he is still my boy, and again, thank you. Please know you are making a difference.
