Shelby is an RN at our Michael Jordan Family Medicine - Greenfield clinic here in Wilmington, NC. She has taken it upon herself to launch the "Reach Out and Read" program at this MJ Clinic, with plans to expand to our second Wilmington MJ Clinic upon its opening. The "Reach Out and Read" program fosters positive bonding between pediatric patients and their families (as well as between the pediatric patients and their providers) by providing a book and early development guidelines at each Well Child Visit from birth to 5 years old. Shelby has taken it upon herself to apply for this program for her clinic(s) to increase childhood literacy, promote positive relationships between family members/caregivers, and help expose children to healthy habits from an early age. She has also spent her own time obtaining books from her local library to stock the waiting areas so that the pediatric patients have age-appropriate and fun material to enjoy. We are so proud of Shelby for making an impact on her patients, their families, and the community.
