Shawna personifies the image of an angel disguised as a nurse! I realize that is a hyperbole, but the appreciation and sentiment remain intact. My mother was a cardiac patient on the burn floor. Shawna treated her with immeasurable respect and truly unprecedented kindness. Shawna told my mother she was treating her the way she hoped her own mother was being tended to by nurses at the very same moment. Not only was she gentle and caring, but Shawna also provided much-needed diversion with her abundance of delightful energy. Shawna was in the room when my mother's doctor had the difficult task of explaining that the next step for my mom was hospice. The doctor's tenderness was beautifully complemented by Shawna's intuitive compassion of how to "be there" for a patient receiving this difficult news. For the short time my father, mother, and I were blessed by Shawna's presence during her shift, she miraculously managed to change our lives and perspectives. Bridgeport Hospital should be supremely proud of Shawna as she represents their nursing staff in exemplary fashion.
