Shawn went absolutely above and beyond in several different ways for a set of patients who tend to be treated poorly in hospital settings. He didn't stop at providing the basic level of care and respect that is expected of all healthcare employees, to all patients, regardless of their demographic, history, socioeconomic status, opinions, personalities, etc. He not only acknowledged that we shouldn't have been treated the way we were on the previous unit, but he took the initiative to actually do something about it, proving without a doubt that he genuinely feels that all patients actually deserve that level of respect. He doesn't just abide by it because that's what's expected of him. I hope Shawn is chosen for the DAISY Award because he is a selfless, mindful, and absolute asset to the women's health community.

Some specific ways Shawn went above and beyond for me and my family are: 1. Displayed great skill and confidence in both labor/ delivery/ postpartum knowledge, as well as his actual physical handling of my baby and me. He was gentle and respectful, yet effective. 2. He immediately apologized for the treatment we received prior, showing that he believed us to be telling the truth about our experience and how it was negatively affecting us. 3. He not only stayed completely up-to-date on me and my condition/recovery, but he went the extra mile to gather information behind the scenes to gather perspective on my thoughts, feelings, fears, etc., in order to provide me with extra support just because he genuinely wanted me to have it. 4. He actively and happily participated in the thoughts, feelings, concerns, and fears of my family just as much as he did with me. 5. His overall calm personality was a significant source of comfort for me during a highly stressful series of events. I could keep writing. This unit is very lucky to have Shawn on their team, and I sincerely hope to see him honored for his efforts.
