If I could have handpicked a nurse for her during that event, I would have picked Sharon.
My momma has received the absolute best care at Walker Baptist!
Today is day 33 since she got sick. She has been moved from a regular room back to the ICU at least six or seven times during this hospitalization, so she’s practically had every staff member on the floor and in the ICU. Momma is still in the ICU, obviously, and she will be for a while. Her latest surgery last night went very well.
Every nurse and tech are wonderful, but one nurse really stands out. Sharon Hudson has been her ICU nurse during this round. She has been absolutely phenomenal to my mom and our family. Daddy and I thought we would lose Momma yesterday. When she was transferred back to the ICU yesterday morning, the staff was literally throwing her stuff together to get her rushed to the ICU. When they took her back there, Daddy said, “This is the last time that I am going to see your mom.”
I was trying to comfort him, but I was thinking the exact same thing. I have been a nurse for over 20 years. I’ve never seen a patient lose blood at the rate that she was losing it. She was losing it faster than they could infuse it. Sharon was her nurse in the ICU, and she immediately took over.
When I saw how she was handling things, my nerves calmed. If I could have handpicked a nurse for her during that event, I would have picked Sharon. She’s beyond knowledgeable and was moving like lightning, and she never showed fear or like the situation was out of hand (and the situation was totally out of hand).
Sharon doesn’t sit down. She moves like lightning. She’s been a huge emotional support to Momma and to us. My momma was beyond out of it, her coloring was completely gone, her blood pressure was nothing, and she was bleeding so heavily, but my absolute terror turned to calm because I knew that Sharon had it. I knew she wasn’t going to let anything happen to my momma.
The decision to take her back for surgery was made in about two minutes. Sharon worked so hard to try to get Mom stable enough to get back for surgery. When things are absolutely falling apart, you want Sharon on your team. I am beyond thankful, and I am bawling my eyes out just writing this because I am so thankful and I am so grateful for her.
My momma has a long recovery ahead of her and obstacles, but I am trusting that Jesus is going to keep working. There have been many times that I thought my momma would not make it home, but I have a feeling of peace now, and I see the changes in her already. I am absolutely overwhelmed with gratefulness right now!
We had the best care from every single employee for 40 straight days! Not one single complaint! Everyone treated my mama wonderfully, and of course, Daddy rarely left, and they treated him great also. Everybody was so accommodating, and she had the absolute best care.
Sharon just went above and beyond!
