Patients who are admitted to the care of a hospital are dealing with a lot of emotional and mental distress in addition to the physical ailment that brought them there. Their primary contact during their stay is the nurse, so naturally, they are the ones the patient looks to for comfort and reassurance. I am a patient and also a nurse. Sharon embodies all the qualities of a nurse. She is knowledgeable, organized, skillful, kind, compassionate, but above all, caring. Her demeanor and skills quickly allayed my fears. She communicated expeditiously with the Physicians to provide answers and update orders. She went above and beyond to provide comfort care, which included warm packs, soothing creams, Popsicles, etc, but above all, she listened and cared. She was never too busy or hurried. She exemplifies Nursing and is an outstanding Nurse. Nurses are essential to a patient's medical care. Nurses like Sharon are essential to making that care an emotionally healing experience as well as a medical one.
