When Sharlene (Shar) started her shift on that Tuesday evening, she was so kind and attentive to not only my dad's needs, but mine too, as I stayed the night with him. Shar was coming into his room every two hours to make sure he wasn't agitated or uncomfortable. She would reposition him, change his protective undergarment, swab his mouth, and then she would ask me if I needed anything. Shar and her peer were very professional and respectful of my dad in meeting his needs at this time in his life. 

Shar always talked to him, calling him by name and telling him what she was doing. The compassion and respect that were given to my dad and me will forever be with me. To me, she went above and beyond during a very difficult time for our family. I don't think I ever had to hit the call button to have her come into my dad's room. She was just there every two hours to provide care, if not before that time.

She listened to me and helped reposition my dad with some of the wedges, which really helped him feel more comfortable. I never felt that we were a burden. I felt like we were her only responsibility that night.

Mayo is lucky to have Shar on their team. I will never forget the outstanding quality of care that she provided that night.
