I am 18 years old, recently graduated from high school, and plan to attend the University of Alabama, where I hope to pursue a career in nursing. In June of 2026, I was admitted unexpectedly for a kidney infection that could only be treated with IV antibiotics. On the second night of my stay, Sharee was my night shift nurse. My mom and I were so tired, having been up all night from constant vital checks, medication, and blood draws. Sharee immediately listened and cared. The previous nurses and lab technician had stuck me multiple times and were unable to get a vein. Sheree paused, first discussed trying to get blood from my port, and, would you believe it, it worked. She then discussed what would come overnight and how we could reduce interruptions.

When she found out I was an upcoming nursing student, she explained what was happening using nursing terms and then defined them. She told me she would “cluster” activities to limit interruptions. My mom and I got the best sleep. I know this sounds like such a simple story. Sharee simply did her job well and showed me the kind of nurse I hope to be. I will be forever grateful to Sharee for being the best nurse and confirming my choice to become a nurse.

Thank you, Sharee, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
