Shannon Krecklau, RN, CCRN

I would like to honor Shannon, a nurse whose kindness carried me through the toughest time in my life and my husband B’s life. B was in a place no one ever wanted to be. Vulnerable, uncomfortable, and unable to care for himself. In those moments, Shannon stepped in with gentleness that made us both feel at ease. She cleaned up B’s mess when he couldn’t. She spoke to him with respect. She treated him like the man he was, my husband, not just a patient in a bed. I watched her care for his every need when he couldn’t. She showed up with love woven into every action. She didn’t treat any part of his care like it was a burden. She treated him like he mattered. She reassured B that everything was normal, and it was ok to poop, that she would clean him up, and she did, every time, without hesitating. For her compassion, her patience, her humanity, and the way she cared for B as if he were her own family. I honor Shannon with the DAISY Award. She has touched our hearts.
