Her ability to recognize subtle changes in the patient’s condition and take swift, appropriate action reflected her deep knowledge and commitment to excellence.
During my RN to BSN course, I had the privilege of observing Shannon as my preceptor, and I can confidently say she is a deserving recipient of the DAISY Award. One particular experience stands out that demonstrated her exceptional nursing skill, clinical expertise, and compassionate care. Shannon was caring for a critically ill patient in sepsis, and I witnessed firsthand how she managed the situation with calm, confidence, and clinical precision. Her ability to recognize subtle changes in the patient’s condition and take swift, appropriate action reflected her deep knowledge and commitment to excellence. She coordinated seamlessly with the interdisciplinary team, ensuring that everyone—from physicians to respiratory therapists-was aligned and informed in real time. What truly stood out was Shannon’s compassionate presence with the patient’s family. There were many family members at the bedside, all clearly overwhelmed and anxious. Shannon took the time to speak with them, offering clear updates, reassurance, and emotional support. She made sure each person felt heard and included, all while continuing to deliver high-level care to her patient. Shannon’s genuine compassion is exactly what the DAISY Award represents. Her dedication to her patients and their families left a lasting impression on me and exemplified the best of nursing practice.
