My care was a complete 360 with her. She made me feel comfortable and listened. We shared family stories, and it was a genuine conversation.
She was my labor and delivery nurse for the birth of my son. I’ve had two deliveries at women and children’s, but Shanna just went above and beyond. I can’t say enough great things about her. She’s one of those people who can tell nursing is her calling, but also being a labor and delivery nurse is her calling.
My story with her starts with her coming onto shift. My care was a complete 360 with her. She made me feel comfortable and listened. We shared family stories, and it was a genuine conversation. I kept telling her after I received the epidural that something didn’t feel right, and I was feeling everything still. She quickly advocated for me and got the anesthesiologist back which we quickly discovered that the catheter of the epidural had been dislodged. Getting the epidural for a second time was not easy since my legs were still numb. She made sure to make it as easy as it could be and comforted me and supported my numb body that couldn’t manage to sit still without folding over.
She went above and beyond for my care and a safe delivery. She checked on me quite often and made sure I was taken care of.
What stood out to me that made this experience different was how she put patient care first. She was off at 3 and stayed to finish what she started. I didn’t start pushing until 3:40. Though I only pushed 3 times she was so reassuring and comforting. My first birth, the nurses stressed me out (even though I know it’s their job), she just had a better way with words and approach. Moms need more nurses like her on their side to make their birthing experience one to remember.
